Passing Through
Summer fades trying to hold on just one more day as Autumn's arrival can be held back no longer. The leaves have heralded it with their brilliant hues and, once again, put on the annual celebration. But this day, while doing some long-shutter waterfall work, I found this last survivor clinging to a lone branch. While composing the image I found myself remembering a sermon which reminds us that this world is not our destination, that we are all merely "Passing Through". Enjoy its beauty and leave it better than you found it.

Success using this technique requires years of practice to perfect it, rock-steady equipment, often very early hours to travel and trek to the subject, and always a great deal of patience with a hefty dose of luck. Long exposures can turn ocean waves into misty mystery, water cascading over rocks into wispy wandering strands of light. For all of my work, I only print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic paper, one of the most exquisite and expensive in the world. The metallic particles embedded in the coating of the paper, along with it’s remarkable yet subtle texture, gives the print a shimmering dimensionality that is almost magical.
