Every sunrise begins our fresh personal journey each morning, its ever-burning light and comforting warmth provide all we need. The sun nourishes the earth causing all things to grow and thrive. It is fierce beyond imagining, but life cannot exist without it. This image is but a reminder that the sun is a faithful companion to be revered. I simply cannot take in a sunrise or sunset without stopping to breathe it in. This photograph was taken on a warm, spring morning from the eastern coastline of Florida in 2023, just south of St. Augustine.

Success using this technique requires years of practice to perfect it, rock-steady equipment, often very early hours to travel and trek to the subject, and always a great deal of patience with a hefty dose of luck. Long exposures can turn ocean waves into misty mystery, water cascading over rocks into wispy wandering strands of light. For all of my work, I only print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Metallic paper, one of the most exquisite and expensive in the world. The metallic particles embedded in the coating of the paper, along with it’s remarkable yet subtle texture, gives the print a shimmering dimensionality that is almost magical.
